SPEAKER SERIES 2014

Speaker’s series- March 8th 2014

The idea was to invite speakers from our membership to share their professional experiences during our regular committee meetings. This is a new initiative that started this year, proposed by Col. Lucky Rajasinghe.

The first event in this speaker series was a success, organized by ACOBA-WC. We were honored to have Dr. Rasi Wickramasinghe, a talented alumnus from Ananda College and a current professional at Johns Hopkins University Hospital, give the inaugural lecture. It was a pleasant surprise to learn that Dr. Rasi had been awarded the Ananda College student scholarship for achieving the best Ordinary Level (OL) results in the year 2000, which was sponsored by OAAC— the predecessor to ACOBA-WC.

In his entertaining and informative talk, Dr. Rasi discussed heart diseases and the importance of a healthy diet. He emphasized that Sri Lankans are genetically predisposed to heart disease due to narrower arteries. He recommended that we adopt dietary habits similar to those of our grandparents and consume less processed food.

Unfortunately, the second event in the speaker series, featuring Dr. Deepthi Jayasekera and Col. Lucky Rajasinghe, has been postponed until next year due to scheduling conflicts with community events.
