FOUNDERS’ DAY MEDITATION EVENT 2013-14

Meditation & Sil Program to commemorate the Ananda Collage Founders’ Day – December 8th 2013. (Member Development Project)

Ananda College, situated in the heart of Colombo, Sri Lanka, boasts a storied history since its establishment in 1886, under the esteemed patronage of Colonel Henry Steel Olcott, an influential American war hero and former Secretary of Agriculture who played a pivotal role in the revival of Buddhism in the country. In a bid to honor the legacy of the founding team, the Organization made a commendable decision this year to introduce an annual meditation program. This initiative aims to foster mindfulness and spiritual growth among public and alumni alike, and we are hopeful that this new tradition will be embraced and continued in the years to come.

Among the distinguished speakers at the inaugural event was our very own alumnus, Dr. Stalin Wettamuni, who shared insights on the importance of meditation in cultivating mental resilience and emotional well-being. The event witnessed remarkable contributions from members, who generously provided nourishing meals, made thoughtful donations, and actively engaged in the activities of the day.

We are particularly grateful to the Venerable monks from Pasadena Temple, along with Rev. Wimalasara from Dharma Vijaya Temple, for their inspirational leadership during the meditation class. Their guidance played a significant role in enriching the experience for all participants.

Overall, the meditation program marked another resounding success for the Ananda College Old Boys’ Association in the Western Region (ACOBA-WC), showcasing excellent participation and enthusiasm from our members. The sense of community and shared purpose was palpable, reinforcing our commitment to personal and collective growth through mindfulness practices.
