Sri Welaratna co-founded Data Physics Corporation in 1984 and as CEO, successfully led the company through a period of thirty years, planning its strategic direction, to a position of preeminence as a worldwide supplier of test and measurement systems for noise and vibration applications. Following the acquisition of Data Physics by Battery Ventures Sri now acts as a technical advisor to the CEO.

Sri Welaratna spent his formative years at Ananda College, graduating in first place among engineering students who entered the then Ceylon University in 1963 and began his career with an Electrical Engineering degree from the University of Sri Lanka at Peradeniya. He initially worked as an Instrumentation and Control Systems Engineer before receiving a Doctor of Philosophy degree from the University of Bradford in England. Sri joined Hewlett Packard in the UK, first engaged in the development of markets for Fast Fourier Transform based applications in Europe and later at Santa Clara, California where the pioneering work for exploiting the FFT in noise and vibration applications was taking place.

Under his leadership, Data Physics has continued a tradition of innovation, striving for excellence, and pushing technological frontiers forward in the test and measurement industry. Sri has authored many technical articles and continues to write for technical publications. With an extensive background in the subject, he is an authority on the application of FFT techniques to noise and vibration applications.
