ANANDA VIHARA RENOVATION PROJECT
Ananda Viharaya, a sacred site established in honor of Colonel Henry Steel Olcott in his pursuit to safeguard Buddhism, had fallen into a state of neglect and deterioration over the years. Recognizing the cultural and historical significance of this temple, the Old Boyas Association based in Colombo reached out in 2013, actively seeking contributions to fund its much-needed renovation. In response to this appeal, our members demonstrated remarkable generosity, coming together to raise substantial funds.
On behalf of the past Executive Committee and former President Pradeep Gunaratna, we proudly contributed Rs. 500,000 (equivalent to five lakhs or US$3,846.00) specifically to support the renovation efforts of Ananda Viharaya.
This donation was made possible through the profits generated from the Maroons Dance, an event held in February 2013, renowned for bringing together the community in celebration. The restoration of Ananda Viharaya not only preserves its architectural beauty but also reinforces our commitment to maintaining our cultural heritage for future generations.
